ABOUT THE CLUB

The Swinburne "Razorbacks" Amateur Football Club is affiliated with the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).

The club was established in 1995 based closed to the Swinburne University's main Hawthorn Campus. In 2024 we have three men's teams, and one women's team.

Our teams compete in Division 3 of the VAFA on Saturdays between April and September, with pre-season training starting in November.

Our home ground is the heritage listed St James Park, in Hawthorn.

CLUB IDENTITY AND MASCOT

Swinburne's mascot, Razor the Razorback, is a fierce wild boar and the proud symbol of Swinburne University.  Players are known as the ‘Razorbacks’ or, more affectionately, the ‘Piggies.’

The club’s colors—red, black, and white—match those of Swinburne University. Our jumper, featuring a bold image of Razor on the front, was recently hailed as one of the best jumpers in local footy.

Swinburne calls St James Park home, but to fans and players alike, it’s better known as ‘The Pig Pen’ or, on its most impenetrable days, ‘The Porktress’ - a place where pigs fly.

Adding to the ground’s character, St James Park boasts a heritage-listed grandstand on the lower side, while the upper side slopes gently towards the Hawthorn War Memorial. It’s a stunning setting for an afternoon of footy, watching the best team in the game.

Notably, St James Park was also the original home ground of the Hawthorn Football Club, adding another layer of history to this iconic venue.

30 YEARS OF THE RAZORBACKS

This season marks the club’s 30th anniversary, a milestone we are eager to celebrate—particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our 25-year celebrations in 2020.

To commemorate this occasion, the club is organising a series of events and warmly welcomes former players, coaches, and staff to join in the festivities.

We have plenty more exciting announcements coming later in the year, including details on our 30th anniversary celebrations.

Be sure to follow our social media channels to stay updated on upcoming events, special guests, and ways to get involved. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the festivities!
